It’s unbelievably the best designed Tecno smartphone featuring the Tecno Mobile customized operating system HiOS. HiOS is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Tecno Boom J8 is set to become the most outstanding music and entertainment phone just after the Boom J8. Generally, Tecno Boom J8 features a couple of features both smart and intelligent.


The Tecno Boom J8 features an overhaul of specs that have not been witnessed on any Tecno phone before. Something quite amazing is Tecno Mobile unending spirit in building a custom user interface,  the HiOS.  HiOS brings onboard a couple great features worth saying a thanks for. However since it is the first time,  there are some issues with it but no much.

Tecno Mobile has designed one of the best of its devices.  The Tecno Boom J8 is the properly and best designed phone with an ultra slim thickness. The thickness of the Tecno Boom J8, is just a 7.35mm. This is slimmer than all the devices Tecno Mobile has ever produced.

It features two wonderful speaker grills at the bottom.  Only one of the grills is a speaker and the other serves as a microphone. They so elegantly designed that they fit just perfectly. The Tecno Boom J8 additionally has volume controls and a power button on one side, the right hand.

Performance and Storage

Tecno Boom J8 performs averagely. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop customized to HiOS.  HiOS is the custom user interface that has been seen on Tecno Boom J8. Navigation or drop down menu has an issue that I hope they will solve soon.  The drop down menu has some lagging.  The menu doesn’t spear immediately. It takes some time to appear.

Powered by a 64-bit Quad core process clocking at a frequency of 1.3GHz does improve and better performance. With the latest MediaTek chipset an MT6753 chipset. 

It additionally features a 2GB RAM that apart from improving performance, it does also improve efficiency. Realize faster processing and gaming speeds thanks to the better and larger RAM equipped into the Tecno Boom J8.

The device stocks a 16GB ROM that’s the inbuilt memory. This memory too can be expanded with the help of a
MicroSD card up-to 128GB. However, only 10GB is available for use of the internal storage (the 16GB).


Tecno Boom J8 features an inbuilt (non-removable) lithium ion polymer battery 馃攱 . Thanks to the Hi Manager that comes with HiOS you can manage your battery capacity. Power Management available on the Tecno Boom J8 allows you to activate battery saver automatically based on remaining battery capacity for instance at 75%, 50%, 30%, 15%, 5% etc.

It also has an Ultra power save mode that completely disables everything except key features such as Messages, Phone, Recorder,  Calculator etc. When you power is 15% or lower camera flashes are automatically disabled.


Tecno Boom J8 hosts dual cameras 馃摲.  A front camera majorly for selfies and video calling and a rear or primary camera for photography.

The rear camera is a 13.0 megapixels camera which performs averagely. The pictures captured are stunning. It features a LED flashlight that’s for dim light or night 馃寖  photography. It captures pictures at a resolution of 4864 x 2736 pixels.

The front camera is a 5.0 megapixels camera with a flash.  The camera is fit for video calling.

The camera interface is largely changed and many default stock Android camera features done away with, things like white balance, monochrome, fluorescent are completely done away with. This is where Tecno Mobile failed a bit in their HiOS UI. Though I am optimistic than updates will come,  they should see such issues.


Tecno Boom J8 sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS touchscreen. The display screen of the Tecno Boom J8 features a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It too feats a 320 dots per inch that’s the pixel density.

It has dimensions of 153.3 x 76.84 x 7.35聽mm making it slimmer than all Tecno Device including, Infinix,  iTel owned by Transsion Limited.

Music on Tecno Boom J8

Tecno have released the Boom Series generally as the music or entertainment phones. Thanks to the Boom Player on the Tecno Boom J8. The player is quite amazing and features more features to twerk around music 馃幎 sounds. They include Boom Max.

You can discover new songs, download the songs at a small fee from the Boom Player. However, you need an account in order to download the music files. It has amazing sound that’s the Boom J8.

HiOS in Part.

As earlier shared,  HiOS is the operating system UI on Tecno Boom J8. It provides a couple of impressive features such as;

  2. Hi Messages
  3. Power Save Management
  4. Hi Themes
  5. Hi Fonts etc.

The messages application on the HiOS interface is called Hi this app allows you to do more than just sending an SMS.  You can schedule messages on your Tecno Boom J8.

Hi Manager on the other hand allows you to clean up your phone of any junk files. Plus it speeds up the phone, releasing some primary memory (RAM).  A harassment block allows you to rid all possible spamming contacts so they don’t spam you ever.  Bandwidth Management allows you to set the maximum data you would like to use in a month.  It also allows you to show up at the notification bar/status bar the current internet speed.
